The Joan and Marcel Zimetbaum Fellowship

About the Fellowship
The Zimetbaum group in 2023.

The Joan and Marcel Zimetbaum Fellowship, established in 2021 and named for the parents of Director of Clinical Cardiology Dr. Peter Zimetbaum, aims to support the training of students in health outcomes and policy research. In partnership with the Smith Center, the Fellowship is a unique one-year intensive research training program designed to provide foundational training in biostatistics and public health, pairing a physician in training with a dedicated faculty researcher for one-on-one mentorship. The Zimetbaum Fellow will focus their research on health services and outcomes, clinical epidemiology, public and population health, and/or health policy.

Pictured above are Smith Center Director Dr. Robert Yeh, 2022 inaugural Zimetbaum Fellow Ashley Kyalwazi, BS (Harvard Medical School, class of 2023), Dr. Peter Zimetbaum, Fellowship Director Dr. Rishi Wadhera, and 2023 Zimetbaum Fellow Chantal Henry, BS (Meharry Medical College, class of 2024).

Azariah Boyd, MS, is the 2024-25 Zimetbaum Fellow. A native of Boston and raised in Brockton, Massachusetts, Azariah became aware of structural change through early childhood adversities. As an aspiring physician-scientist, she envisions serving her community by bridging the realms of public health and medicine, with a focus on advancing health justice. Azariah looks forward to expanding her analytic and methodologic skillsets, gaining insights into the embodiment of socio-environmental factors, and effective solution for addressing health disparities.
